Leading Decentralized Exchange

Swap Any Token Instantly — Uniswap DEX

Uniswap lets you trade ERC-20 tokens directly from your wallet. No account. No deposits. No middleman holding your funds. Just connect, pick a pair, and swap. The protocol routes your trade through on-chain liquidity pools and settles everything on the blockchain.

Centralized exchanges make you hand over your keys. That's a risk most people ignore until something goes wrong. Uniswap flips the model — you keep custody the entire time. Your tokens sit in your wallet before, during, and after the trade. Over $2 trillion in cumulative volume. Millions of users. Still fully permissionless.

What Makes Uniswap the Go-To DEX

Thousands of tokens. Deep liquidity. No registration. Here's what you actually get when you use the protocol.

01 // SWAP

Instant Token Swaps With Best-Price Routing

Uniswap's smart order router scans all available liquidity pools and splits your trade across multiple paths to get you the best possible rate. It checks v2, v3, and even aggregated sources. You see the price, the estimated gas, and the minimum you'll receive — all before you click confirm. No surprises.

SMART ROUTER
02 // SELF-CUSTODY

Your Keys, Your Coins — Always

Unlike centralized exchanges, Uniswap never touches your private keys. The protocol interacts with your wallet through smart contracts. Tokens move from your address to the pool and back to your address in a single atomic transaction. If the swap fails, you get everything back. No withdrawal queues. No frozen accounts.

NON-CUSTODIAL
03 // EARN

Earn Swap Fees as a Liquidity Provider

Deposit token pairs into Uniswap pools and earn a portion of every swap fee. Version 3 introduced concentrated liquidity — you choose the price range where your capital works. Narrower range means higher capital efficiency but more active management. Wide range is more passive. Pick what fits your style.

LP REWARDS
04 // MULTICHAIN

Trade Across 8 Blockchains From One Interface

Ethereum mainnet for deep liquidity. Arbitrum and Optimism for cheap and fast L2 swaps. Polygon for micro-transactions. Base for the Coinbase ecosystem. BNB Chain, Avalanche, Celo — all accessible through the same Uniswap interface. Switch networks in your wallet and the app follows. Same experience everywhere.

CROSS-CHAIN

How the Automated Market Maker Actually Works

No order books. No matching engine. Uniswap uses liquidity pools and a mathematical formula to price every trade in real time.

The Constant Product Formula

At its core, Uniswap v2 uses x × y = k. Two tokens sit in a pool. When you buy one, the other's supply increases. The formula keeps the product constant, which automatically adjusts the price. More demand for a token pushes its price up organically. No centralized price feed needed.

Concentrated Liquidity in Uniswap v3

Version 3 changed the game. Liquidity providers can now concentrate their capital within specific price ranges instead of spreading it across the entire curve. The result? Up to 4,000x more capital efficiency for tight ranges. Traders get better prices. LPs earn more fees per dollar deposited. It's the reason Uniswap leads DEX volume.

Key concepts every Uniswap user should know:

  • Slippage tolerance — the maximum price difference you'll accept between quote and execution. Set it too low and your swap might fail. Too high and you could get front-run.
  • Price impact — how much your trade moves the pool price. Large swaps in shallow pools have high price impact. Split across pools when possible.
  • Gas fees — every swap is an on-chain transaction. Ethereum mainnet can cost $5–$50+ in gas. Layer 2 networks bring that down to pennies.
  • Token approval — before your first swap of any ERC-20 token, you must approve the Uniswap router contract to spend it. This is a one-time gas cost per token.

How to Provide Liquidity and Earn on Uniswap

You don't just trade on Uniswap — you can become the exchange. Deposit tokens, earn fees, and support the ecosystem.

1

Pick a Token Pair and Fee Tier

Head to the Pool tab and click New Position. Select two tokens — say ETH/USDC. Then choose a fee tier: 0.01% for stablecoins, 0.05% for correlated pairs, 0.3% for most tokens, or 1% for exotic assets. Higher fee tiers earn more per swap but attract less volume.

2

Set Your Price Range (v3)

In Uniswap v3, you define the min and max price where your liquidity is active. If ETH is at $3,200, you might set a range from $2,800 to $3,600. Your capital only earns fees while the price is inside your range. Tighter range = more fees = more risk of going out of range.

3

Deposit Equal Value of Both Tokens

The protocol requires balanced deposits. If you put in $1,000 of ETH, you need $1,000 of USDC (at the current pool ratio). Approve both tokens, confirm the transaction, and your position is live. You receive an NFT representing your LP position.

4

Collect Fees and Manage Your Position

Swap fees accrue automatically. Claim them anytime from the Pool page. Watch your price range — if the market moves outside it, you stop earning. You can adjust, close, or open new positions as conditions change. No lock-up period. Full flexibility.

Blockchains Where Uniswap Is Deployed

Same protocol, same interface, different chains. Pick the network that fits your needs — whether it's deep liquidity or low gas.

Quick network comparison for Uniswap traders:

  • Ethereum mainnet — deepest liquidity, highest gas. Best for large trades where slippage matters more than fees.
  • Arbitrum / Optimism / Base — Layer 2 rollups. Gas costs under $0.10 in most cases. Near-instant confirmation. Growing liquidity.
  • Polygon — sidechain with very low fees. Good for smaller swaps and DeFi experimentation.
  • BNB Chain / Avalanche / Celo — alternative L1s with their own ecosystems. Solid option if your tokens are native to those chains.

The UNI Token and Decentralized Decision-Making

Uniswap isn't run by a company. It's governed by UNI holders who vote on every protocol change.

GOVERNANCE // 01

On-Chain Voting for Protocol Upgrades

Every change to the Uniswap protocol goes through a governance process. UNI holders submit proposals, discuss them on the governance forum, and vote on-chain. Fee switches, new deployments, treasury grants — all decided by token holders. Minimum 40 million UNI votes needed to pass a proposal.

DAO GOVERNED
GOVERNANCE // 02

Treasury and Ecosystem Funding

The Uniswap Treasury holds hundreds of millions in UNI tokens. The community allocates grants for development, security audits, research, and ecosystem growth. It's one of the largest protocol treasuries in DeFi. Every allocation requires a governance vote — no single entity can spend from it unilaterally.

COMMUNITY TREASURY

Security, Audits, and Track Record

Trust in DeFi is earned through code transparency, battle-tested contracts, and years of operation without compromise.

Open-Source Smart Contracts

Every line of Uniswap's smart contract code is publicly available on GitHub. Anyone can audit it, fork it, or verify it. The v3 contracts operated under a Business Source License for two years before becoming fully open-source under GPL in April 2023.

Multiple Independent Audits

Uniswap v3 was audited by Trail of Bits, ABDK Consulting, and samczsun. The v2 contracts were audited by dapp.org. Bug bounties up to $15.5 million are active through Immunefi. These contracts have handled trillions in volume with zero exploits on core protocol code.

Non-Custodial by Design

Uniswap never holds your funds. There's no hot wallet, no cold storage vault, no withdrawal process. Tokens move between your wallet and the liquidity pool in a single atomic transaction. If the Uniswap website goes down, the smart contracts still work — they live on the blockchain.

5+ Years of Continuous Operation

Launched in November 2018 on Ethereum mainnet. Uniswap has processed over $2 trillion in cumulative trading volume across all versions and chains. No core contract hack. No user fund loss from protocol-level vulnerability. The longest track record of any major DEX.

Common Questions About Uniswap

Straight answers to the stuff people actually search for.

Yes. Uniswap's core smart contracts are open-source and have been audited by Trail of Bits, ABDK, and other security firms. You trade from your own wallet — the protocol never takes custody of your tokens. Just be careful with unknown token contracts and always verify addresses before approving.
Swap fees go to liquidity providers — 0.3% on v2 and between 0.01%–1% on v3, depending on the pool's fee tier. The Uniswap web app charges a 0.25% interface fee on certain pairs. On top of that, you pay blockchain gas fees which depend on network congestion and your chosen chain.
MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, Trust Wallet, Rainbow, and any WalletConnect-compatible wallet. You can also connect a Ledger or Trezor hardware wallet through MetaMask for extra signing security. Mobile wallets work too — the Uniswap web app is fully responsive.
Uniswap is live on Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, BNB Chain, Avalanche, and Celo. Ethereum has the deepest liquidity but higher gas costs. L2 rollups like Arbitrum and Base offer sub-dollar fees with near-instant settlement. Each deployment shares the same protocol logic.
Open the Pool section, click New Position, select a token pair and fee tier, set your price range in v3, then deposit equal value of both tokens. You earn swap fees proportional to your share of the pool. No lock-up — withdraw anytime. V3 positions are represented as NFTs in your wallet.
Impermanent loss occurs when the price ratio of your deposited tokens changes compared to when you added liquidity. If one token pumps hard while the other sits flat, you end up with more of the cheaper token and less of the expensive one. It's called "impermanent" because it reverses if prices return to the original ratio. Trading fees can offset it — but not always.
Yes. Uniswap is a permissionless protocol — no account creation, no email, no identity check. Connect a wallet and trade. The Uniswap Labs interface may block certain tokens or regions for compliance reasons, but the underlying smart contracts are accessible to anyone with a Web3 wallet.
UNI is the governance token for the Uniswap protocol. Holders vote on proposals for fee switches, new chain deployments, treasury spending, and protocol upgrades. Total supply is 1 billion UNI. The famous airdrop in September 2020 gave 400 UNI to every wallet that had interacted with the protocol before that date.
